Tell Congress: No Deal, No Break

Friday, January 11 2013

Are you tired with the way members of Congress continue to avoid doing their jobs? Our political system is broken and it’s time for the American public to demand better.

Tell Congress: No Deal, No Break is a nonpartisan campaign delivering a simple message to Washington: don’t take any breaks until you reach a deal that brings our debt to a sustainable level.

Join the cause and sign the petition on Facebook to join a growing movement of concerned citizens who have a simple request for Congress – please do your job. Congress can show America it’s serious about fixing our problems by at least showing up for work full time.

Don’t have Facebook but would like to sign the petition? You can sign your name here. Would you like to receive updates about Tell Congress: No Deal, No Break?  Sign up for updates here.

The campaign is led by a group of nonpartisan organizations concerned about America’s future, including the Comeback America Initiative, The Can Kicks Back, the Common Sense Coalition, and The Concord Coalition.

Congressman should not be paid when they are out of the office on personal time.

  10. Sonya Gressel says:

If you would pass a law for citizen funded elections, you could get off the merry-go-round of fund raising that has completely buggered the electoral process. We as citizens are not blind to the fact that what you do most of the time is raise money for your next election. This is stupid, and NOT the way this country was meant to work. SURELY you are as sick of it as we are! Citizen funded elections are the answer. You don’t HAVE to be beholden to big money interests. If you are a decent person, you didn’t go into politics to be a money raising machine. Let’s see some responsibility to your constituents, not to individual rich people and corporations!

  11. Joanie Watts says:

Get to work – find ways to help to system work more efficiently – give your staff a day off. Be respectful to those you work for and spend less time calling for money and earn the money already allowed to you for doing YOUR JOB!!!

  14. Ollie Parker says:

If I could, I would throw all members on Congress out on the street. I am proud to say that I did not vote for any incumbent in the recent election. They are all a part of the problem.

  15. Greg Marso says:

    Dear Congress,

Are you kidding me? I would like to see any member of congress tell me with a straight face why you get paid and why you get a vacation.

    Thank you,

    Greg Marso

  16. Mel Tobey says:

Our Washington Law makers need to go back to the good ol functional days, spending many more weeks in Washington doing their jobs, instead of going home and raising funds for the next election. AND WE NEED TO GET THE RICH ELITE CLUB AND MONEY OUT OF OUR POLITICAL PROCESS(GREED) so all law makers will represent main street instead of their Wall Street and their Lobbying buddies.

  17. Julius Will says:

    Thank you

  18. Julius Will says:

  19. Terry Newman says:

Especially this session, there are some pressing issues that must be addressed.

  20. Terry Newman says:

Especially this session, there are some pressing issues that must be addressed. Congress should stay and work together until some decisions are made.

  21. JoAnne Nickerson says:

Like the rest of the country if we don’t finish our job we don’t get paid.
Who gets the amount of vacation then our congress?
If they don’t work they should not get paid.

  22. Karen Carter says:

Please show up to your jobs like we do daily 5 days a week and 50 weeks out of 52…. now after showing up, wake up and get to work team. Work to make our nation whole and one together in a common cause.

WE do NOT and WILL NOT use facebook. The link to sign the petition without using facebook goes to this page and the link her to “sign the petition or sign up for updates here” only leads to the signup for updates, not to signing the petition. Therefor I have been unable to sign the petition.

  29. kurt mosteller says:

    Do your job!

  30. Russ and SuAnn Vandevelde says:

We agree wholeheartily!!! Thanks for pushing this initiative.

I wish you would start a movement to deny (not defer) congress their pay if they don’t pass a budget. Also, make them use Social Security and the same health care that the rest of us have. I know this would require a constitutional amendment, but I think it would pass the states easily right now. Please think about pushing this.

    Thanks,
    SuAnn and Russ Vandevelde

  31. khehellings says:

Keep up the great work Comback America Initiative! I have some hope things will get better eventually with your intelligent leadership and the people’s increased knowledge of what is REALLY going on. Thank you, and keep turning up on Morning Joe and other programs that share the truth and offer some ideas and solutions for America.

  32. Brian Hill says:

I urge congress to give up on their vacation. You seem to enjoy a vacation in Washington, being wined and dined by lobbyists. Shame on you!

  33. Craig Huggins says:

Keep working on reducing the level of federal spending so we can begin “living within our means”. I have 2 sons, ages 18 and 22, and they are, as am I, very concerned about the direction our country is heading in. How can their generation pay the cost of all the debts the current generation is leaving them? We all know this is unsustainable and we have to reign in the entitlement programs in order to balance the budget. Please stay in Washington and work on solutions to these most urgent problems.

  34. Frank DiPiero says:

Please, please get to work solving our nation’s problems. Don’t leave Washington until substantial progress is made. Have the courage and moral fortitude to be a statesman instead of a politician.

  35. ty mitchell says:

tried to sign petition–no f-book account, so no access. [sad face]

  36. Jack says:

Politicians should be paid what the national average is for wages, get the same health care as your average citizens, work 40 hours a week and do their Fnnnnnnnnn job!!! also only get the national holidays off as we do.

  37. Burton Dickerson says:

Please get back to work. Most have to work a year to get a week off. I know you are working at home.

  38. Rhonda Hurley says:

Please work together to come up with a deal. I worry for my children as I am afraid that this national debt will cause them to have no future. I believe if gas prices went down drastically, our economy would turn around!! I wonder if anyone would be willing to test this theory??

  39. Vicki McMinn Coburn says:

There are so many people “out there” who simply do not vote because “it” does no good or it does not matter which party is in, they are all the same. We would not need term limits if people would vote especially in the Primaries where it starts. Include in your/our movement Congress MUST take a 25% pay cut, no congressional insurance plan or retirement package. Shake things up more.
